Schroon Lake, Dora Freeman Mueller, 92, passed away Friday February 20, 2015 at her home in Paradox, N.Y.
She was born January 10, 1923 in Newton, Ma, daughter of the late Lloyd S. and Frances Hawes Freeman. She grew up in Newton, Ma, and Wellfleet Cape Cod.
Dora received her training as a Physical Therapist from Boston Bouve' and practiced for many years both in hospitals and with private patients in the Boston area.
Dora's first marriage was to Charles Atkinson (d) and she is survived by their four children, Frances Babcock of Freedom, NH; Joyce Binder and Susan Atkinson of Rutland, Vt.; and Charles Atkinson of Harwichport, MA. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She moved to the Schroon Lake and Paradox Lake, NY area in the late 1970's with her second husband, Robert Mueller (d). There she became an active member of the St. Andrews Episcopal Parish, as well as teaching Sunday school and volunteering at the Schroon Lake Central School. Dora loved the Adirondack region where she enjoyed swimming, hiking, and taking daily walks in the woods around her home in Paradox. She was an avid gardener and animal lover, and was the proud "mother" of two goats (Penny and Lucille) and many cats over the years including most recently, her beloved Patsy (now lovingly re-homed with one of Dora's granddaughters). Dora made many friends wherever she went and will be missed by all.
