Schroon Lake, John Barry Milsom, 73, passed away unexpectedly on September 16, 2017 at his home in Schroon Lake.
John was born February 23, 1944 in the Town of Wallasey, in the United Kingdom, the son of the late Frank and Ruby (Symes) Milsom. He was raised in Valley Stream, NY and graduated from Wellington C. Mepham High School in Merrick, NY in 1962. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and served until 1966.
John married the love of his life, Linda Anne Jacob, in 1965. They made their home in Malverne, NY and Baldwin, NY, before moving to Randolph, NJ in 1985, where they lived for 21 years. They retired to Schroon Lake in 2006.
John was employed by Pan American Airlines until 1985, then for Continental Airlines until 1993. He consulted with ICF International until he retired.
John Barry served his community well. He was an active leader in the Schroon Lake Community Church and former director of the Schroon Lake Fish and Game Club. He served in the Schroon Lake American Legion Post 982 and volunteered at the Schroon Lake Senior Citizens Club.
John was an avid golfer who spent many days on the Schroon Lake Golf Course. He created and tended the beautiful gardens that surrounded his home and enjoyed boating on the lake.
John Barry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Anne of Schroon Lake, his beloved children Deborah (Robert) Philp of Schroon Lake, Robert (Lisa) Milsom of Saugerties, NY, and Amy Greenplate of York, Pa., his sister Gwen (Dennis) Grace, his brother Geoffrey (Rose) Milsom, and his seven cherished grandchildren, Melanie and Tristan Philp, Erin, Mathew and Rebecca Milsom and Nicole and Brendan Greenplate and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday morning September 20, 2017 at the Schroon Lake Community Church 1088 US Rt. 9 in Schroon Lake. Cremation will follow.
Friends may call at the Schroon Lake Community Church Tuesday September 19, 2017 from 3:00 until 6:00 PM.
