Janet Friedman Obituary

Schroon Lake, JANET ROSALIE FRIEDMAN Born July 11, 1924 passed away comfortably at her home in Schroon Lake on February 20th.
Born in NYC, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Leo and Helen Roth. She attended Julia Richmond High School and graduated from Robert Louis Stevenson High School. She attended NYU and then Columbia University's School of Dental Hygiene graduating in 1946 as a Dental Hygienist.
Her father had a passion for the mountains and while growing up her family vacationed in Schroon Lake for many years. Janet was a camper at Camp Red Wing on Schroon Lake. We still have her yearbook.
While vacationing in Schroon Lake in the summer of 1946 she met the love of her life and best friend of 57 years, Moe Friedman, who passed away in 2004. She is survived by two sons Joel Friedman and Roger (Myriam) Friedman and her two grandchildren Adam (Shanna) Friedman and David (Sonia) Friedman.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sister, Leonie Carmichael.
She was employed as a Registered Dental Hygienist in Albany while Moe went to law school and after his graduation they moved to Schroon Lake. Shortly thereafter they began raising their family. She became a licensed Real Estate Agent in 1962 and joined Moe at Friedman Reality, his star real estate agent for many years. In 1975 she attended the renowned Forsyth Dental Center in Boston and successfully completed a refresher course in Dental Hygiene. For many years afterwards, she volunteered as a dental hygienist in Israel where Roger and Myriam lived, and was recognized by the American Dental Volunteers for Israel for her work.
She was a Den mother, served on the board of directors of the Essex County Mental Health Association, assisted in the Schroon Lake Central reading program and was a member of the Seagle Music Colony Guild and Gala Committee.
She was very passionate about the survival of the State of Israel and for many years was very active in Hadassah,a woman's volunteer organization advancing health and well-being worldwide through its support of medical care and research at the Hadassah Medical Centers in Jerusalem.
Family had a special meaning to Janet. While she always loved being surrounded by family and especially her grandchildren Adam and David, she was the glue that made all of our relatives far and near integral parts of the extended family.
Always inquisitive and with a body seemly in perpetual motion Janet was always on the go. She and Moe traveled extensively. She was Moe's fishing partner in Kodiak, Alaska for over 20 years. In the winter she enjoyed skiing. She had a passion for the arts, music and history.
Her family extends a multitude of thanks to her caregivers all of whom during her decline offered the most wonderful, compassionate care above and beyond the call of duty and also to the nurses of High Peaks Hospice for their kind care.
