Schroon Lake; Michael George Shaughnessy Sr. 77, Passed away peacefully Wednesday April 18, 2018 at the Glens Falls Hospital. He was born March 26, 1941 in Ticonderoga, NY the son of the late George E. and Gladys Litts Shaughnessy. He grew up in Newcomb, NY. He was also predeceased by his wife Gloria Boudreau Shaughnessy, his brother William Shaughnessy, his sisters Patricia LaRocque and Linda Taylor. Mike was a graduate of Newcomb Central School. After meeting Gloria in Long Lake, NY, they moved to Schroon Lake and raised their family of three boys. Mike worked construction on the Northway as a teamster. He later drove a log truck. Mike worked at the Schroon Lake branch of NYSDOT and retired after 21 years of service. Mike was a drumming legend known throughout the Adirondacks. He played with the Matadors and Mike Leddick's band for many years. After retiring Mike picked up the drumsticks again and enjoyed drumming a song or two with local musicians. Mike also got great joy out of watching his grandsons play sports. The many family gatherings held always brought Mike great happiness. Mike is survived by his Sons Michael G. Shaughnessy Jr., Dana (Marylou) Shaughnessy and Greg Shaughnessy, his five grandsons, SPC Sean Shaughnessy and SPC Jesse Shaughnessy, Alex Shaughnessy, William Shaughnessy and Lucas Shaughnessy, his sisters Elizabeth LeMay of Minerva and Rebecca Dobie of Clifton Park and his brother David Shaughnessy of Schroon Lake, a special friend, Louise Smith of Schroon Lake and several nieces and nephews.. Michael requested that there be no formal services held. A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials take the form of donations to the Schroon Lake Emergency Squad, Schroon Lake, NY 12870.
