Daniel Owen Riggins

Schroon Lake; Daniel Owen Riggins 66, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 24, 2015, playing the sport he loved with friends he loved.
Dan was born in Kingston, NY on February 3, 1949 to the late Peter Owen Riggins and his surviving mother, Lillian (Gill) Riggins.
Dan was also predeceased by his brothers Timothy and Richard Riggins.
Dan was a graduate of Wallkill High School and completed his schooling from SUNY Cortland where he was a leading member of the Red Dragon Basketball and Football Teams. Dan's educational career began a Mohonasen Central School as a middle school science teacher and continued/concluded as Principal of Charlton Heights Elementary School of Burnt Hills, NY.
Dan loved and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was happiest when entertaining friends, organizing golf and tennis tournaments, serving on numerous boards and commissions, delivering meals on wheels, but most importantly always putting others needs before his own. His strong faith played an important role in his life and he was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Parrish Council Member. Many people have been the lucky recipients of his famous poems and have enjoyed his story telling and jokes.
In addition to his mother, Dan is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kathy (Turevich) Riggins and his beloved son Mathew Riggins of Saratoga, NY, his brother Peter (Susanne) Riggins, his sisters Betty Ann (Paul) Vegliando, Kathy Riggins, Mary Jean (Tim) Coddington, Nancy (Bill) Hecht, Patti (Bruce) Campo, Ellen Riggins, Barbara (Jim) DeMetriou and special Mother-in-law Helen Turevich and sister-in-law Judy (Bobby) Osborne and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating Dan's life will be held Friday morning August 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, in Schroon Lake with father Kevin McEwan Pastor officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Schroon Lake.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
The family suggests memorials take the form of donations to, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Schroon Lake Emergency Squad or the Mission of Hope.
