Elizabeth A. "Betty" Stickney, 76, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Wesley Heath Care Center in Saratoga.
Born in Tupper Lake on November, 9, 1941 she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Gauvin) Gibbs.
She graduated from the Newcomb Central School class of 1957 and continued her education at SUNY Plattsburgh.
Betty married the love of her life, Hayden Stickney, in St. Therese's Roman Catholic Church in Newcomb.
Betty was a communicant of St. Therese's Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of Newcomb's Mountain Quilters and Wings Falls Quilt Guild.
Betty was the Town Clerk in Newcomb for 30 plus years.
She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, sewing, traveling to New Brunswick, Canada, and spending time with her family. Betty was a Newcombite and loved the people and town of Newcomb.
Betty's biggest pride and joy in life was adopting her daughter Jennifer and being witness to all of her accomplishments.
Betty's family owned the Wayside Inn Hotel and Restaurant where all the Newcombites could enjoy food, beverages and each other's company.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Hayden Stickney; and her brothers, Edward Gibbs and David Gibbs.
Left to cherish her memory include, her daughter, Jennifer Stickney of Gansevoort; her brothers, Richard Gibbs and his wife Sharie of Newcomb and Patrick Gibbs of Long Lake; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty absolutely adored her great nieces and nephews.
At Betty's request there will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 1p.m. with Rev. Peter Berg, pastor of St. Therese's Roman Catholic Church in Newcomb, officiating.
Burial will be in the spring at Newcomb Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to, St. Therese's Church 18 Adams Ln, Newcomb, NY 12852 or Newcomb Vol. Fire and Rescue Squad 20 Marcy Ln, Newcomb, NY 12852 or Moreau Emergency Squad, Inc. 1583 State Rt. 9 Fort Edward, NY 12828.
