Schroon Lake: Arthur “Butch” LeBlanc, 84, passed away comfortably at home Sunday, May 25, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family at his home in Schroon Lake, NY
Butch was the son of William and Clara (Nadeau) LeBlanc, and grew up with his elder sister, Doris Holdshoe, his younger brother, Leonard (Tip) LeBlanc, and several brotherly cousins.
Born in Cohoes, NY, he lived a colorful and storied life. As a teen, he tore up the roller rink at Guptill’s Arena and cruised in his red '51 Ford convertible with his brother and friends. As an adult, he worked as a Quality Control Inspector at General Electric in Schenectady, NY, and became a skilled machinist. He moved to Schroon Lake in 1978 and became well known in the area as a jack of all trades. He made close friends with residents of Bigsby Pond, where he looked after their properties during the off-season. Butch loved hiking, hunting, fishing, and playing the guitar. He had a gentle way about him and loved animals. He fiercely protected Bucky the baby deer and rehabilitated countless other wildlife. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and was a talented tinker and mountain man. He had a sharp wit but was never quite sure if it was colder at night than in the country (which might have had something to do with the bone in his leg, we’re not sure).
He is survived by Mary Pelkey, his loving companion of 52 years, as well as his brother Tip (Lucie), brother-in-law George, sons Frank (Sue) and Thomas (Viktoria), daughters Debbie, Cheryl, Laurie, Mary Lee, and Valerie (Robert). He also leaves behind beloved grandchildren, Robbie, Harrison, Malena, Gia (Dmitry), Nichole (Shaun), Alex (Shane), Mik, Mariah, Ariel, Ava, Xavier, Xander, and Scarlett, along with great-grandchildren, Axel and Mazie, and countless friends.
Visiting hours will be at the Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home, 1019 US Rt. 9, Schroon Lake, NY 12870, on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Schroon Lake Association, P.O. Box 5, Schroon Lake, NY or High Peaks Hospice, 1247 Dix Ave Hudson Falls, NY. 12839, in memory of Arthur "Butch" LeBlanc..
The family would like to offer special thanks to Heather and Keeley of High Peaks Hospice.
