Avis S Kedmenec

Schroon Lake: Avis Sunn Kedmenec, 99 passed away on July 31, 2023, at Elderwood at Ticonderoga. She was born on November 28, 1923, in Lewis NY, the daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie (Cutting) Sunn.

She received her High School Diploma from Elizabethtown Lewis Central School. A Bachelor and Master of Science Degree from Plattsburgh State University.

Avis married the love of her life, Michael Kedmenec of Witherbee, NY June 24, 1951, Michael passed away on November 18, 1998.

Avis taught Home Economics for 18 years at Mineville High School, Schroon Lake Central School, and Minerva Central School. She was a Cooperative Extension Agent in 4H in Essex County for 7 years.

Avis and Mike were avid Western Square dancers, they spent 15 winters in North Carolina and were honorary members of 3 Square dance clubs in North Carolina. They were also members of the Merry Mohican Club in Glens Falls.

In addition to her parents and husband, Avis was predeceased by her sister Ethel Sunn of Lewis.

Survivors include her son Michael and Carol Kedmenec, her daughter Pamela and Bruce Murdock, granddaughters Kimberlee Kedmenec and Amber and Justin Mellinger, 3 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was an active member of the Schroon Lake Community Church and requested that memorial donations be sent to the church.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday morning August 3, 2023, at the Moriah Union Cemetery in Port Henry, NY, where she will be buried next to her husband.
