Severance, Daniel “Dozer” G. McKenzie 80, of Severance, NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 27th , 2021. Born September 24, 1940 at Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga to the late Milton and Eleanor (Grogan) McKenzie of North Hudson, NY.
Dan was a graduate of Schroon Lake Central School, class of 1960. After graduation, he honed his skills as an operating engineer within the International Union of Operating Engineers. During his 60 years of membership, Dozer worked on many large projects that he took pride in, varying from the construction of New York’s major highways to the Alaskan Pipeline. After retirement from Local 158, he started McKenzie Logging. Many of his favorite memories include logging the Adirondacks with his best friends and family at his side…when he wasn’t attending Schroon Lake Basketball games. Dan was one of the most dedicated and voracious Schroon Lake Wildcat fans you will find.
Of Dan’s greatest accomplishment, however, was his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Eleanor McKenzie as well as his eldest daughter, Valerie McKenzie of Boston, MA. Left to cherish his memories are his children Cherie McGinn of Severance, Daniel McKenzie Jr. of Chestertown, his grandchildren, McKenzie Eddy (Travis) of Denver, NC, Korin O’Doherty of Boston, MA., Anna O’Doherty of Boston, MA., and Kyle McKenzie of New York, NY, his great-grandchildren, Andrew and Lucas Eddy and Fianna Bliss, his sisters Yvonne (the late Alfred) Major, Margaret (the late William) Carboy and Cathy (Wayne) Cleveland and his brother Peter McKenzie and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the Schroon Lake EMS and the High Peaks Hospice. A special thanks to the families of Jeff and Debbie Jenks, Ed and Sandy Hayes and Marty and Lisa Welch for the years of continuous help and friendship.
A private Memorial service will be held later at the family’s convenience. Memorial contributions can be made to the Schroon Lake EMS, Schroon Lake, NY, 12870 or a charity of one’s choice.
