Newcomb
Douglas Garand, age 94, a longtime resident of Newcomb, passed away on April 7, 2021, in the Elderwood at North Creek.
Doug was the son of the late Norman and Katherine (Ahrant) Garand. He was also predeceased by a brother, Norman Garand Jr.; a sister, Geraldine Clark and her husband, Tom; a sister-in-law, Grace Garand.
He was born on February 25, 1927 in Willsboro, NY and married the love of his life, Madeline Blanchette in September of 1955 in the former St. John Catholic Church in Newcomb.
Doug served his country in the United States Army in the latter years of World War II and retired after 40 years of employment with NL Industries.
Most importantly, Doug enjoyed spending time with his family. He also was very fond of being in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and duck hunter.
In addition to his loving wife of 66 years, Doug is survived by his brother, Maurice Garand, as well as many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to off a special thanks to Doug’s sister-in-law, Gertrude Valliere and nieces, Nicole Blanchette and Deena Jones.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 13, at 11am in the Newcomb Town Cemetery with Rev. Peter Berg, pastor of St. Therese Roman Catholic Church officiating.
