John Wright Obituary

Pottersville: John “Jack” Allan Wright passed away into the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior, peacefully in his home with his loving and devoted son by his side at 87 years young on February 11th, 2024. Jack was born at Paterson General Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey, on August 6, 1936, to the late Clarence and Violet Wright. He is originally from Dumont, New Jersey, moving to several different towns before retiring to Pottersville, New York, where he for over 30 years.

Jack did not live for the things of this life but for the things of eternity. Jack lived a long, happy, successful 87 years of life.

Jack was part of the Dumont High School graduating class of 1954. During his senior year, he was the President of the Visual Aids Club. He could often be found taking pictures or recording film throughout his entire life. He was also a member of his high school’s tennis team, winning trophies during different tournaments.

Out of high school, he served in the New Jersey National Guard and The United States Army Reserve and was honorably discharged from both.

Jack was an avid automobile enthusiast, one of the many hobbies he enjoyed throughout his life. He spent many years racing Volkswagens and Porsches, often winning first place in different events. After retiring from racing, Jack continued his love of cars. However, cars are not the only type of vehicle Jack had a love for. He had a fascination for anything with an engine, an everlasting connection that he shared with his grandson, William.

Jack was very active in his Church Communities. He spent many years serving with the youth groups at Ringwood Baptist Church, where he changed the lives of many individuals he encountered. He was also the founder and President of Upstate Prison Ministry. Jack also worked for Word of Life in the maintenance department. He was a faithful member of Mountainside Bible Chapel, where he could be found every Sunday for service.

The Word of Life is where he met his loving wife, Diane, whom he was married to for 21 years before her death. They resided in Pottersville and shared their home with many well-loved poodles during their time together.

Jack retired from the World-Wide Volkswagen Corporation as a Parts Manager. He also received an award for Top Salesman after accruing over a billion dollars in sales.

He was a member of the Pottersville Fire Department for 12 years, where he served as the chaplain. He was also secretary and Fire Police Chief for a portion of those years.

Besides his parents, Jack is predeceased by his beloved wife, Diane. Left to cherish his memory and sense of humor are his son Greg Wright and daughter-in-law Karen. Granddaughters Karissa and Chelsea Wright. Along with grandson William Wright, with whom he shared a very special bond, and his beloved cat Luna. His daughter, Sharyn Fusco, and son-in-law, Kevin. Granddaughters Ashley Palmer, Elizabeth Hofnagel, Jordan Fusco, and grandson Christopher O’Conner. He also leaves behind neighbors Fred and Karen Griffen and many friends.

The family would like to thank his caregiver, Kristen Prosser, for her care and support over the past several months, and High Peaks Hospice for their care and compassion provided not only to Jack but his family as well.

A celebration of life will be held on March 2, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Mountainside Bible Chapel 165 US Rt. 9 Schroon Lake, NY 12870. In lieu of flowers, in remembrance of Jack’s life and love, the family asks that donations be made in Jack’s name to Mountainside Bible Chapel.
