Joseph A. Helms

Newcomb: Joseph A. Helms, 53 of Newcomb, NY took his last breath July 7th, 2023, on the shores of Lake Harris.

He is survived by his parents Brenda Stringer, John J. Helms, Lowell (Linda) Stringer, Siblings Tonya (Daniel) LaRose, Lowell (Anne) Stringer, Alexa Helms, nephew, Connor LaRose and nieces Carley LaRose and Winnifred Stringer. So many relatives and friends are also grieving the unexpected loss of Joey.

He worked in various trades over the years, which included body and fender repair, carpentry, and code enforcement. Rather than bore you with small talk about employment, Joey preferred to share colorful stories of time spent pursuing his true passions, which included fishing, hunting, the outdoors, and coin collecting. Joey reveled in the frequent casual gatherings spent with close friends discussing the day’s events in an untroubled atmosphere.

Well known as a lover of pranks and general hijinks, his grin was equal parts innocent and mischievous. Joey had a wonderful sense of humor with a distinctive laugh that seemed to lift his shoulders clear of the top of his ears. Life often robs many of the pure, unadulterated joy we experience in youth. Joey not only held on to that joy for himself but shared it freely with many throughout his life.

Joey was no big fan of formality so please leave your finest attire in the closet and join the family and friends in celebration of a life well-lived and a man well-loved at the Newcomb Fire Hall on July 29th at 1:00 PM.
