Newcomb; Maureen McGrath Lynch passed away on Monday April 28, 2014 at her home.
Maureen was born August 23, 1950 in Staten Island, NY, the daughter of the Late Daniel L. McGrath and Helen (Zinkiewicz) McGrath.
Maureen grew up on Staten Island and graduated from Port Richard High School in 1967. She attended S.U.N.Y, Cortland graduating in 1971 and received her master's degree from Wagner College. Maureen was a Science Teacher and worked at Tottenville High School, New Dorp High School and J.P. Stevens High School in Edison N.J.
Maureen married her true love James M. Lynch in 1988 and moved to the Town of Newcomb in the Adirondacks. Here she spent the last 18 years of her teaching career working at Long Lake Central School and retired in 2010.
Maureen was an avid skier and was a life member of the Staten Island Ski Club. She was also an advance scuba diver spending many summers visiting the reef's on the island of Bonaire, She spent over 20 years as a synchronized swimmer and coach of the Staten Island YMCA Synchro-lites. Her other passion was gardening as evidenced by her extensive gardens.
Maureen is survived by her husband of 25 years James (Bo) Lynch, her mother Helen McGrath, her brothers Randall (Phyllis) McGrath and Daniel (Kathy) McGrath, her sisters-in-law Patricia (Larry) Edict and Mary Jane (Char) Lynch, brother-in-law Daniel (Joy) Lynch, nieces, Julia Ket, Sheree (Jim) Maddison, Sue (Phil) Griffis, nephews, Scott (Jess) Edick, Larry Edick, Craig Lynch and Brent Lynch.
There will be a "Celebration of Maureen's life" this summer on a date to be announced.
Maureen suffered from ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials take the form of donations to MDA/ALS division, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205 or Northern New England Chapter ALSA, The Concord Center, 10 Ferry St., Suite 309, Concord, NH 03301.
