North Hudson, NY, Shirley Marie Provoncha passed away on November 15, 2025. Shirley was the daughter of Henry and Gladys (Hammond) Goodspeed of Olmstedville, NY. She was born on October 10, 1934, and married the love of her life, Alvin Provoncha, on June 19, 1955.
Shirley cherished sharing stories from her years working at Frontier Town, where she formed lifelong friendships and countless fond memories. She served as the Town of North Hudson's tax collector for 27 years. Above all, the greatest joy of her life was being a homemaker--raising her children, nurturing her family, and caring for loved ones through her passion for cooking and baking.
Shirley was the matriarch of her family, a steady and loving presence who held everyone together. She was known for hosting the best sleepovers when her grandchildren were young, waking them with the scent of fresh cinnamon toast and the promise of a day filled with adventure. Her gentle and kind nature made her "Gram" to everyone she encountered. And while she was endlessly caring, she also had a remarkable sense of fun, humor, and excitement--teaching TJ how to climb trees, sharing stories of the mischief she stirred up in grade school, and encouraging everyone around her to dance whenever they had the chance.
She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved son, Joseph Provoncha, her sister, Helen Goodspeed Mitchell, and her brothers Leo and Raymond Goodspeed.
Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, Alvin; her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Thomas Garcia; and her cherished grandchildren, Mary and Logan Quinn, Sarah and Jason Marks, and TJ Garcia. She was adored by her great-grandchildren, Clarah, Alvin, Finn, Skyla, and Molly, and leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews as well.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aides, and staff at Elderwood at Ticonderoga for the excellent care and compassion they provided to Shirley at the end of her life.
