Susan Elizabeth Scheuer

On Sunday, January 28th, 2024, Susan Elizabeth Scheuer left this earth to be with our Lord and Savior.

To know Susan “Sue” Scheuer was to know that she loved her family and her pets with everything that she was. Her husband and sons were her life, along with her grandchildren. She was always there whenever they needed her, and she would do anything without reservation or retribution. She was a very loving, giving, hard-working, wonderful person, and she will be greatly missed.

Sue was born In Schroon Lake on September 9th, 1949, to Orley and Isabelle Swinton. She was the youngest of 7 children. Hardship came early to Susan when her birth mother died after giving birth to her. She was then raised by her Uncle Earnest and Aunt Hazel. Upon Earnest’s death, she was raised by Hazel, who made her the woman that she was to be for the rest of her life.

She married at a young age and then had three boys, Robert, Paul, and Randy Vanderwalker. All she ever wanted to be was a mother, and she got what she wanted, although it ended up that she raised 3 boys on her own and made all the sacrifices that a single mother had to make and never complained. After many years she found her true love in Richard “Dick” Scheuer, and they wed and have been together until death did them part. They became grandparents to Morgan, Anthony, McKayla, and Molly. And these grandkids were Sue’s world. She helped make these kids who they are today through her love and kindness and teachings of right and wrong.

Susan joins her brothers Paul, Claude, and Gerald and her sister Ellen Whitford in heaven and is still loved deeply by her brother Carl Swinton and sisters Effie Scruggs and Katherine Wright, whom she always kept in contact with.  

Susan was an avid animal lover, so the family is asking that any donations be made to a local SPCA in her name.

Family and friends may call Friday, February 2nd, 2024, at the Edward L. Kelly Funeral home, 1019 US RT. 9 Schroon Lake, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place in the Severance Cemetery in the Spring.
