Thomas Flynn Obituary

Schroon Lake; Thomas Arthur Flynn, 78, passed away at his home January 7, 2015, after a gallant fight with lung cancer, with his loving family by his side.
Tom was born December 3, 1936 in Mineville, NY the son of the late William and Pauline Scripture Flynn and his step father Daniel Grogan.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Betty Jean Flynn and Joan Flynn (Fred) Rich, brothers Robert Flynn, Harold (Helen) Flynn, John "Jack" (Marion) Flynn, as well as his brother in law William Welch.
Tom was a veteran of the US Air Force having served from 1955 till his Honorable discharge in 1957.
Tom moved to Schroon Lake in 1955 and was employed by Drake Lumber Corp as a yardman, Drake Harness Racing as a handler and the Town of Schroon Highway Department for 27 years, he retired in 2003. After his retirement he still found the urge to work, so he went to work for Bell & Flynn as a flagger. Tom was an active member of the Schroon Lake Volunteer Fire Department for many years where he served as Captain of the fire police for many years, he retired in 2014 and became a senior fireman. Tom was also very active in the Lower Adirondack Fireman's Association Board where he served in various positions.
Tom is survived by his daughter Nicole (John) Howe of Pottersville, his son John ( Dana) Flynn of Greenwich, Ct., his four grandsons whom he cherished, Douglas & Jared Howe of Pottersville and Sean & Jamison Flynn of Greenwich Ct., his ex-wife Lillian Lang of Paradox, one sister Jean Welch of Schroon Lake as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom enjoyed watching and doing things with his grandsons which were the apple of his eyes, whether it be watching Doug Kart Race, Jared playing baseball, Sean playing soccer or even just going to a car race, hockey games and attending basketball games to support the SLCS Wildcats. On any given day he could be found having his morning coffee at the Black Bear and evening ice cream at Stewarts with his friends. It was often said if didn't know anyone he would pick a stranger off the street and start talking to them.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday January 10, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home 1019 Rt. 9 Schroon Lake. Interment will take place in the spring.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the service at 2:00 PM. A reception to celebrate his life will follow the service.
The family would like to thank John & Kay Mingo, John & Mary Ellen Welch and Curt & Anne McCoy for being the best neighbors. The office of Dr. Darcy Grubbs, the CR Woods Cancer Center for their continued support, the nursing staff of T2, you are all angels in our eyes and High Peaks Hospice.
In lieu of flowers please hug those that are close to you and tell them you love them often. Those wishing to donate in Tom's memory are asked to do so to the CR Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital or the Schroon Lake Fire Department.
