Newcomb, Virginia "Aunt Ginny" Hall, 83, a lifetime resident of Newcomb, New York passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in North Creek.
Born September 20, 1931, in the home where she lived nearly her whole life, she was the daughter of the late H. Lee and Effie Rice Hall. She is survived by two sisters, Dorothea Mary La Course and Pauline May Miller both of Newcomb, and several nieces and nephews who considered themselves honored and blessed to have called her "Aunt Ginny".
Ginny's graduating class of 1950, had the distinction of being the first class to graduate from the new Newcomb Central School Building. During high school Ginny's love of sports became apparent. There are some who remember Ginny standing on the pitcher's mound and firing her fast ball over home plate during softball games. Many more remember her as an ardent Yankee and Giants fan.
After graduation, Ginny began work at National Lead Company as shipment clerk in Tahawus, N.Y., retiring 40 years later in March of 1990.
Ginny was very active in church and community. She served as treasurer of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Town Historian, Newcomb Day Planning Committee, Town Clerk, and a Town Committee-person for the Essex County Republican Committee.
Ginny had a loving and kind heart. She was always there for family and friends, compassionate, nonjudgmental and dependable. Ginny demonstrated "Love Thy neighbor." Her baked beans were so sought after during fund raisers that people would line up for a chance to buy a pan of "Ginny's Beans". She touched so many lives and gave selflessly to her community and church. Aunt Ginny will be missed by all who knew her.
There will be a funeral service noon Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Saint Therese Catholic Church in Newcomb, the Rev. Carol Ames Pastor of the Newcomb United Methodist Church will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 AM until noon. A luncheon will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in memory of Ginny be made to the Newcomb United Methodist Church.
