Schroon Lake: Walter A. Kaskewsky passed peacefully at home on April 15, 2024. He fought hard for 3 ½ years with Pancreatic cancer. He was at home in hospice care for 4 1/2 months.
Born in Wakefield, RI, February 15, 1948, he was popular in the Troop of Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle Scout Merit Badge. He attended King College, a Catholic institution in Wilkes-Barie, PA, and graduated with a BA in English. He was still in contact with his college buddies, known as Wally Bear! He was an officer in the Air Force and became a helicopter pilot.
Once he came to the Adirondacks, he knew he wanted to stay, so he bought a rubbish business in 1972. He worked hard and always went above and beyond for his customers.
Walt is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Suzanne, an Adirondack girl from Minerva, also an Air Force veteran: his sister and brother-in-law Diane and John Perreault of Sacramental, CA.
His passions included Golf, Skiing, and Broadway Theater. He was an avid sports fan, Go Red Sox. He traveled the world, including Jamaica, Machu Piccho, Hawaii, Alaska, and seven countries in Scandinavia, to name a few.
His cremains will go to Rhode Island in September. He will be missed deeply but remembered by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Schroon Lake Emergency Squad, Schroon Lake, NY 12870.
