William Joseph Bamford

Schroon Lake: William J. Bamford, born July 23, 1925, died peacefully at his home on July 14, 2023, just before his 98th birthday.

Bill is survived by his wife of 78 years, Josephine; his two children, son William Bamford Jr. and wife Ronnie, and daughter Tammy Vonie and husband Peter; daughter-in-law Shirley Bamford; grandsons Bill Bamford III and his wife Kristen, Gene Clifford and his wife Cathy, Michael Clifford and his wife Christy; granddaughter Valerie Clifford; his beloved great-grandchildren Joshua Clifford, Bill Bamford IV, Finnegan Bamford, and Hunter (Pippin) Bamford; and many nieces and nephews. Bill is predeceased by two sons Neil Bamford and Kenneth Bamford as well as his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Bill joined the US Navy one day before his 18th birthday on July 22, 1943. He served in WWII and received the European Theatre Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, and Victory Ribbon. Bill was Honorably discharged on February 5, 1946.   

Bill loved the Adirondack Mountains and after being discharged from the Navy, Bill moved to Schroon Lake, NY in 1947 where he spent the next 76 years.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home 1019 US Rt. 9 Schroon Lake, NY. Interment services will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 2;00 PM, the date and time are confirmed.
