John J. Kelly; Owner and Manager of the Edward L. Kelly Funeral home which he and his wife Susan L. Kelly purchased from his father Edward L. Kelly in 1965, has been a licensed Funeral Director in New York State since 1964. A graduate with honors from Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science in 1962, John has been an active Funeral Director serving  Schroon Lake and the surrounding communities since he returned home in 1964. He has been very active politically in the Town of Schroon, Essex County, New York Sate and nationally, serving as the President of both the NYS Associations of Towns and Counties. He served on the National Association of Counties Board of Directors. He has been a member of many civic organizations throughout his life. He has been married to his wife Susan since 1965, they have a son Edward J. Kelly and a daughter Louise V. Nestler and their grandchildren Hunter and Lauren Kelly and Liam and Maura Nestler.

History:

Edward L. Kelly and Louise V. Kelly came to Schroon Lake in the late 1930’s and acquired the Undertaking Business of Henry Bohrman. In 1941 they purchased the building at 1019 US Route 9 which became the permanent location of the Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home as it exists today. Edward was born in Olmstedville, NY and Louise in Onieda, NY, they both loved the Schroon Lake area and the people who resided in the area. For almost 80 years, The Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home has taken great pride in providing caring , professional and comprehensive funeral services, delivered in an ethical and sensitive environment to all the families they have been entrusted to serve.
